My school held a parents and teachers’ socials yesterday afternoon. We planned to see fireflies in a beautiful mountain but the weather was too bad to see any. It rained all afternoon and children were disappointed that they couldn’t see any fireflies. We just chatted all afternoon and waited for dinner time and raffle draw. I’m one of the activities’ staff and dealing with all little problems in this activity made me feel tired. When the activities finished, my legs felt sore and all parts of my body just wanted to take a rest. However, through this activity, parents could interact with each other and discuss problems with teachers, and that was the main purpose of this activity. I thought all toils were worth once we achieved the purpose.
Today was a lazy day. I wrote an article in my Chinese blog this morning. The title of the article is ‘It’s just a proper age for getting married’. I was discussing that woman always asks to get married around my age. It is a kind of social pressure and there are always a lot of friends who want to introduce some good men to me. Recently, friends always ‘encourage’ me to find a blond as my boyfriend. I told them that I won’t reject any opportunity of making friends but won’t ask on purpose for a blond as my boyfriend. And my mission in London is studying, not chasing for my Mr. Right. Nonetheless, I am grateful that all my friends are still concerned about my future.
This afternoon, a Taiwanese singing competition TV programme attracted my attention. This competition’s purpose is to find a superstar who will sings Chinese songs in the future. I didn’t know when I stopped listening to Chinese songs. I’ve miss so many good Chinese songs! Through this programme, I realised that there are still lots of marvellous Chinese songs in Taiwan. What’s more, those competitors in this programmer were really good singers and they sounded really professional. I was totally attracted by their sound and believed any of them can be a super singer in the future in the field of Chinese songs. With those great new singers, I hope that Taiwan can not only be the kingdom of Chinese songs now but in the future.

It’s another busy day. This afternoon, it was announced that the competition of Hakka song has been cancelled this year. That means our training for the competition must be stopped! How will those students feel once they know the news? They might be sad because they lose a chance to win the championship. I should find a way to comfort them next Monday afternoon. However, that’s good news for me because I don’t need to teach Hakka song which I am not good at.

Today is a quite busy day. There is a competition of Hakka song in the end of May. I am assigned to direct 20 second grade student to attend the competition. Since now, I need to spend 2 hours every Monday and Thursday afternoon to teach those students how to sing with precise tune and to pronounce every correct Hakka word. Ironically, My Hakka is poor and it is even poorer than my English. But my school still appointed me to be the instructor of this competition because no teacher wants to direct those young children. Nonetheless, those 20 students are excellent and were chosen from 60 students to represent our school in this competition. I believe that the hard work will be worthy once we win the first place in the competition.
There is a thing that drives me very happy. One of my co-workers gave two of her new and expensive dresses to me. She married to a rich businessman so that her husband often goes shopping with her and pays for what she buys. She said there are too many clothes in her wardrobe and she wanted to give out her clothes. Fortunately, the two dresses totally fitted me! I couldn’t wait to dress one on once I get them and lots of my co-workers admired that I looked nice with the dresses. I think the two dresses with high quality fabric and perfect tailor must be expensive. I will never spend so much money to buy this kind of clothes in my life expect someone wants to pay for my. All in all, I got the dresses for free. Lucky!

It’s a general Monday. However, there is still something valuable to record. One of my co-workers told me that he is planning to argue some problems at teachers’ appointment on this Friday morning. But in my view, the problems he wanted to argue aren’t an important thing to every teacher in the meeting. I advised him not to argue problems which do not concern other teachers in the appointment, and he should discuss with our principal first to find out the better way to solve the problems. At last, he accepted my suggestion and talked with our principle this afternoon. I don’t know if the problems will be solved, but I’m sure that before doing any thing, thinking twice is better than acting roughly.
One student was crying when talking with her mother on telephone in the teachers’ office (Our school offers students an free telephone call in teachers’ office.) After she hanged up the phone, I asked her what happened. She told me that the Maths teacher in the cram school was too strict and she didn’t want to go to the cram school any more. So she argued about this with her mother in the phone. She said that teacher would bet her when she didn’t know the answer of his question. And when she encountered a question in Maths, she was afraid to ask him any question. And what’s more, her score in Maths didn’t have any progress in the middle exam. Personally, I don’t think that she should go to the cram school and she was just wasting her parents’ money. So I told her that she can study Maths by herself and save the money. If she has any Maths questions, she can ask me. I will do my best to solve the problems for her. I also gave my mobile phone number to her and told her ‘If your parents have any problem about this, please just call me. I’m glad to discuss this problem with your parents.” She stopped crying and promised me that she will do her best to make a big progress by herself.
Helping people is one of the happiest things in the world. Be a teacher, I can help people everyday, and it is the worthiest thing that I can do in the world, isn’t it?

I saw a film called “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” this morning. This film is adopted from the book whose author is C. S. Lewis. Several years ago, one of my mates recommended me to read Narnia and said it is a children’s book and the English is easy to understand. I also heard somebody say Narnia is better than Harry Potter. That’s the reason I am interested in it and decided to see the film first. I thought that I’ll read the English novel if the film doesn’t disappoint me.
Of course it wasn’t disappointing to me at all. I think it’s an amazing story no wonder so many people recommend this book. I haven’t read the book yet but I’ve gotten the e-book of Narnia from one of my co-workers. I hope have time to finish it before going to the UK.
I found a bank which might be able to grant me a loan of 1.6 million NTD. If it can promise to loan me such immense amount of money, it might be the solution of my financial problem in studying abroad. I wrote an e-mail to ask the clerk of that bank and I’m waiting for the positive reply (response). Good Luck!
In conclusion, this is a no-study weekend. I know that I should study and practise IELTS writing now, but the lazy part of me took over my mind. Writing dairy is a light job for me and I content myself that at least, I am still practising my English writing through writing this diary.

I know that my last IELTS test is approaching, but I didn’t study English the whole day. I packed winter clothes this morning in order to ship my stuff before leaving Taiwan. There are two big bags of clothes which weigh approximately 7kg respectively. There might be too many clothes because one box can’t contain more than 20kg otherwise the price of sea transportation would become much higher. But a lot of my shoes and the electric pot which I want to bring to UK haven’t been included in the box. Oh! It’s hard to give up any. I might shop two boxes of stuff to UK because I don’t want to spend much money on clothes or shoes in the UK.
Lots of people said that London is a shopping paradise so it’s hard not to go shopping in London especially for women. Taiwanese students in the UK suggested that new students don’t need to bring too many clothes and we mustn’t be able to resist this enticement. But the problem is that I don’t have much money to support those shopping. Finding enough money for studying abroad is my first hurdle. Financial ability has become a big problem for me especially when the exchange rate of GBP to NTD has reached to 1 to 66 now. Oh! God help me! (May God help me!)

I had stopped writing diary for maybe four years. I don’t know why I stopped writing. I might have been too busy in the beginning of my teaching life or just lazy. Anyway, I think to keep recording my daily life is important because people always forget what has happened in their life. Diary is a tool which can remind me that I have done such many things in the world.
One month ago, I started to write my own love story and share with my friends in my blog. I suddenly found that if I didn’t write diary at that time, it is impossible to remind myself so many details that happened in the past and those details would just be gone from my memory forever. So I made up my mind to write a diary again. But this time, I would like to do it in English. It is much more difficult for me to write in English than in Chinese, but I believe it can improve my English writing skill much and it is cool!
I’m calculating how may rest days I can have this afternoon. Because I plan to leave Taiwan on 23rd of Jun, I should apply 28 rest days in this term. Teachers in Taiwan can just only have 14 legal rest days a year and I need other 14 rest days (112 hours). So I started to extend my work time from 4pm to 6pm every day from this April in order to collect enough hours for 14 days. My co-workers said that I’m “the queen of rota (note 1)”.
There is another important thing for me. That is I bought a Tatung electric pot which is the most famous electric pot in Taiwan. It is an essential cooking tool for Taiwanese students. My assistant suggested me buy one and it cost me 1990 NTD. It’s a quite nice price. I will post it with sea transportation once I’m sure that I am offered a place in IoE. Good luck!
